Afghanistan: A New Chapter in Pediatric Neurosurgery

Dr. Aziz-Sultan helps to organize hands-on training in ETV/CPC for our partners in Jalalabad, Afghanistan, through collaboration with NeuroKids (led by Dr. Benjamin Warf). Dr. Zamiruddin Khalid and Dr. Khyber Iqbal Safi are our local Afghan partners who now run the country’s first locally delivered modern pediatric neurosurgery program. Afghan surgeons are now providing safe, effective treatment for children who once faced long, uncertain journeys for care.

August 2025: Two Firsts in Paraguay Neurosurgery


In June 2025, a landmark neurosurgical partnership in Paraguay led by Dr. Jose Kuzli in Paraguay and MGB’s Dr. Nirav Patel helped to achieve two historic milestones: the country’s first functioning cerebral double-bypass surgery, and its first flexible endoscopic intraventricular procedures for hydrocephalus. Guided by multi-year training and mentorship, local neurosurgeons are now providing advanced life-saving care previously unavailable in the country — a breakthrough for patient outcomes and sustainable surgical capacity.

Our MGB team helped teach the first epilepsy operation in the history of The Gambia and continued our partnership for pituitary surgery. Further, we worked with OpenAI to advance the use of AI for medical education and healthcare.
